Here is my Beastmen Army. I took this to BITS in 2011.

Gasp! Is that Minotaur riding on a Beastman flying "aryabian carpet?!?"

The gor with wings remind me of the Wizard of Oz, "Fly monkeys fly!!" Good work!

Kevin,

Yes that is a flying carpet he is riding on. I liked the image of a flying chunk of heardstone or someting similar vs a rug.

Madmojo,

LOL "flying monkeys" They do look like those...I will never look at them in the same way. I have another 5 pair of wings so I can make another group.

Ah yes, I fear I typed that message under the wrong topic! I love the idea and the execution! I also like the variety in which you painted the gors. Well done!

Your army looks great all lined up together on the table top! Interesting Bray-Shaman conversions as well. Now all you need is a suitably epic display board. :-)

The display board is definitely the part that is lacking in the army. I have an idea that I think is good but it will take a fair amount of work. Finishing the movement trays would be a good idea also.

Well, don't leave us hanging, man! Whats the idea?

Also, if you are of the mind to do this with a group (I'm trying to get a painting/hobby thing together in the next couple of months), I'd be willing to bring/lend GW's Terrain Building Book. It has given me some great ideas for developing my gaming table.

Ok, here's the idea. This was hatched on my drive back from "Buckeye Battles" in 2010.

Picture a farm house at early evening, glowing with candle light. The father on one knee w/ rife (empire rifle man) addressing his wife and two children. Now surrounding the house is a low fence wood or stone maybe some animal pens. Surrounding the whole thing would be tilled soil and w/ crops. Along two or three sides of the scene will be trees and on the edge of the trees the horde of Beastmen is quickly approaching the small farm house. The father is obviously telling his children that he loves them and not to be worried that the sounds coming from outside are probably nothing to be worry about...but he knows better...

I would like to have a really nice low sunset with a backdrop that depicts another farm house razed and or burning in the background. I like the thought of the beauty of the sunset against the horror that is creeping up on this little family. Think of a Thomas Kincaid meets Stephan King scene. Would also like to see a few scattered Beastmen lurking in the trees and closer to the house. Beastmen moving thru corn rows and or pumpkin patches is another image I like. Minotaur's carrying dead cows and pigs from the neighbors farm house they claimed just minutes ago.

I don't know if this seems a little to much but this was the original idea.

Kevin,

Thanks for the offer to use the book. I have the same one. Bought it back when I started getting into Warhammer. What kind of painting/hobby group thing do you have in mind.

I'd like to get a group of hobbyists together in order to do some painting and/or scenery. Maybe once a month? It might not be a bad idea to do a group project? Possibly creating a gaming board? Just a thought I've been bouncing around.

Kevin,

Sounds like a great idea. We where just talking tonight about having a paint night at our local game store and listening to a podcast once a
month. People could share painting techniques, conversions, ect with each other.

Not sure where you live at but I am in Northern Michigan so getting together might be difficult unless you are in the same area.

So what did you think about the idea for the display board. Old hat, good, ok, boring???

I love the idea for the display board! I've always thought that a display board should tell a story when you look at it. If you execute your idea nicely, then viewers will know exactly what is going on simply by looking at the scene.

I really like the idea about the display board as well. It's a great image and if done correctly will really have viewers looking over all your models!

My suggestion is that a backdrop might actually take away from the scene itself. Unless youre talking about painting it yourself? It may be personal preference but I'd love to see actual smoke billowing from the back of the board where your horde is lingering. Though I have no idea how you could recreate a sunset... maybe it could be in the middle of the night?
