Geek moment

posted Jul 30, 2012 18:32:17 by ScottMorgan
Hey guys - just wanted to share a completely geek moment: the 2000pt version of my Daemon list that I brought to Throne of Skulls last year got printed in the August issue of White Dwarf. It's in the back in their 'The Augury' section. It's a shame you really cant see any of the details or either of the hand-painted work on the greater daemon and BSB, but I'm totally geeked to see it in print. :)

That's awesome! We may not be able to make out the details in the magazine, but could you post a few pictures here for people to enjoy?

Certainly - let me point you to the original project thread on Warseer as it has the evolution of the army. I just updated it with good shots of my Bloodletters, BSB, Skulltaker and my custom sculpted flamers.

Recent updates (Keeper painted and the above): http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?236671-Decadent-Host-of-Inevitable-Excess/page6

Definitely appreciate any and all feedback. Enjoy!

That Keeper of Secrets is phenomenal! I love the freehand work on the blade. Any idea how long that piece took you to complete? :-)

Hmm, it was a big sculpt and with things like that it's best to work in little bits of time and let the section cure before adding more, otherwise fingerprints EVERYWHERE - so I ended up doing it 30 minute batches over about 2 months. Total sculpting time if I put it all together was maybe 10 or 15 hours if I had to guess.

I got him painted up in about a week of solid work each evening in front of the TV.

It's really one of my favorite pieces I've ever done - I even entered it into the Golden Daemons for large monster but while he made the cut, he didn't place (really, they were looking for pure painting and the sculpt didn't count towards score). That said, it's been a heck of a centerpiece for my Daemon army and has been a factor in a number of best army wins to be sure. :)

On that note, I'm sculpting my own Vargulf for my VC list to fit into the Lahmia theme; I'll post some pics of the greens as soon as she's done.

That unit of ghouls I posted a little while ago is almost complete - I'm on details and then final basing and they'll be done; I'll be sure to get a shot of them for the board once they're camera ready.

Nice - I'm really interested to see your Varghulf. I've considered running two in my list but don't really like the idea of having two identical models.

I finally saw the photo in the White Dwarf - it looks great. I love the freehand Daemonic faces on the display board. What a nice touch!
