WOC Army Blog

posted Mar 08, 2013 21:59:56 by C.LaBelle
I've decided to pass the empire on to someone a bit more dedicated to painting all of those tiny average men, and pick up an army I've always wanted to finish. Here is the start of a weekly blog about my Nurgle and Khorne WOC army for the upcoming Unplugged GT. The army is mostly based off of my love for the Khorne Lord on Juggernaut model, anything Nurgle and the Slaughterbrute. So far I've assembled all of the models as well as based all but a few marauders. I've also used the new Chaos lord model to make a converted bsb. It's come out quite well, and I can't wait to paint it.

I know, I even had to shave it down a little to not look freakishly long. I've already snapped it off during my first trial game though, so I'm going to have to be extra careful.

Here's some of my first batch of Khorne warriors.

Looking good - the red is quite striking. As it stands, the boots blend into the ground a little too much. Perhaps some flock or static grass will alleviate the situation.

What are you watching in the background while you paint? :-)

Good choice there, i'm looking forward to season3 - that's going to be some fine painting support =)
Nice work on the Khorne warriors, keep 'em coming!

This week I worked on the Skullcrushers, and I've pretty much managed to complete them along with my Lord / Exalted on a Juggernaut. In three games play testing them I've found that they can take almost anything head on. My last game they killed a unit of Saurus and 3/4 of a Skrox unit in three turns of combat without any magic support. Incoming crappy iphone pictures:

Looking good! What color(s) are you using for the brass?

For brass I mixed half rhinox hide with hashut copper, then a layer of just the copper over that. Finally, to dull the shine I just hit it with the new devlan mud. I'm trying to get everything in the list to about this level. If I finish before May I might go back and do some extreme highlights.

I've got all of the army now table ready, I just need to finish up shields, bases and the trays. This is my first ever painted army, still not fully completed, but it's been a really awesome experience seeing the models transition to life. I've owned almost all of the armies at one time, but never had more than half of one painted. This has motivated me to use better techniques and take my time to get this army to a great standard. Your comments are greatly appreciated!

Congrats on completing your army! Seems you pulled it together fairly quickly. I'll give you some feedback when I see your army in person at the GT. :-)
